In the text, it says painting is the "queen of the arts" People like it the most, it gets the most money and recognition.
Tell me what kind of painting you like: landscape, portrait, mural, abstract, stylized. If possible mention an artist and the type of medium he/she use.

I came to this class kind of closed minded to art, but after a month and doing research and reading about art it really has made it enjoyable to me. What I thought to be intriguing was Murals, and fresco painting, it amazes me how they do it on such a large scale. This is probably why I chose Diego Rivera b/c he was known as a master muralist.
I would say that I really like the portrait style in painting because it makes the painting look more realistic and outstanding. I like Jan van Eyck's "Men in a Red Turban." He used the tempera and oil on panel method to create this piece. particularly, I admire this painting because the epressions of the man in this painting are so clear and vivid that at first I thought it was a picture and not a painting.
I really like abstract paintings because they give a peculiar type of vibe and they are anything but traditional. One artist that I have recently discovered is Luis Hernandez Cruz, and there is one of his paintings that I absolutely love because of it's colors, it's called "Transfigure Landscape". In this painting he uses Acrylic paint and fabric canvas.
I’m absolutely interested in abstract paintings which aren’t usually a realistic texture. During class last Thursday, we came across a portrait that was divine. An oil on canvas painting by Jean-Auguste -Dominique the “La Comtesse d’ Haussonville” created 1845. The painting technique made her skirts so touchable and the reflection on the mirror life-like, incredible.
I really enjoy abstract art because it can be so creative! To take something so normal or plain and turn it into such a dramatic representation of that same piece is great! the possibilities are endless. You can take an eye or nose and make it really big or really small, you can take one piece and break it up. I like that you can go wild. I think Picasso was one of the best abstract artists due to his recongnizable art. You can see examples of his technique throughout the book pg 28-Seated Woman Holding a Fan, 146-Girl Before a Mirror, 523-Les Demoiselles D'Avignon, ect.
i would say that i like meaningful art whether it be graffiti or iconic. I like art that makes you think about what is going on in the piece. I guess you could say Salvador Dali's work make you think, at first when you look at his art you kind of wonder what is going on but when you look at it closer you tend to see what he is trying to get through to you.
My favorite type of art is modern abstract art like what Gayla Myer does. Gayla is a self-taught artist who actually paints! ha ha. I think art is about how the colors make the human brain feel. Its about the emotions it brings out. Abstract paintings can be interperted many different ways, it brings out different emotions from different people. I love it.
